Tensor : The new chip will power exclusive features on Google’s next-generation Pixel phones. These include voice commands, translation and dictation.

Google has just given us a peek at the Pixel 6 smartphone. It will be running a Google-developed chip.

Tensor is the chip and will be included in the Pixel 6 and 6 Pro. They will be available later in fall. “Tensor enables us to make the Google phones we’ve always envisioned–phones that keep getting better, while tapping the most powerful parts of Google, all in a highly personalized experience,” says Rick Osterloh, the company’s senior vice president for devices.

The Snapdragon processors of Qualcomm have been used in past Pixel phones. Google created a custom chip to support artificial intelligence and machine-learning.

The company isn’t spilling the beans on Tensor’s exact specs or the manufacturer behind it. But expect the new silicon to power some features exclusive to Google’s Pixel phones concerning voice commands, translation, and dictation.

Osterloh says, “You’ll notice this in everything from a completely overhauled camera system and speech recognition and much more.” Pixel will help you communicate with your relatives in another language or capture a family photo.
