Apple Homepod discontinued

Apple has officially discontinued the original HomePod wireless speaker.

Apple confirmed that the HomePod will continue to be available “while supplies last” online and in-store at Apple retailers. Apple will continue to offer users software updates, support, and service. Instead, Apple will be focusing on the HomePod mini going forward.

Apple stated in a statement that the HomePod mini was a huge success since its launch last fall. It offers customers incredible sound, an intelligent assistant and smart home control for $99, Apple added.

Apple’s online store currently only offers the white HomePod model. You may also find the space gray version in select retail locations.

PCMag reviewed the original HomePod speaker, praising its “powerful audio performance with rich, full bass” and its “visually pleasing design.” Unfortunately, it came saddled with several shortcomings as well: no aux input, Bluetooth streaming options, or voice control for non-Apple music services.

The HomePod also debuted at $349, which put it at the higher end of home speaker pricing. The HomePod mini, which was smaller and cheaper than the original, debuted in 2020 at $99, making it a good replacement. Although it didn’t have an audible input, it delivered solid audio, great Apple Home app integration and great voice control options.

It is not clear how long the original HomePod will be available. It’s best to get one as soon as possible if you are interested.
